The Reilly Report
Have you noticed your kids acting a
little stressed? I encourage you to be ready to support your children when they
give you the glaring signs that they are going under. The challenge, at least
in my own house, is that those signs usually first switch on my blame
mechanisms. (What time did you go to sleep last night? Did you eat candy? Who
have you been hanging around? Your coach said what? Does your teacher really
think you can do all of that in one night?…) Our children come to us with their
tank near empty and looking for a fill up. If we are not ready, it is easy to
poke a few more holes in the tank.
What they need is a hug and a calm
reaction. Help them with priorities and time management. Help them realize they
are not super human and that it doesn’t change how you feel about them. They can only do what they can do. They may
need some coaching on how to cope with stress. When we tell them we want them to
try their best, we have to help them realize that “best” means within their
time and talent limits.
It may sound corny, but even
teaching them to take a deep cleansing breath or how to take a one minute
mental vacation to their happiest memory will go a long way. I also think this
is a perfect time to have them ask themselves, "What would Jesus do?"
Next Friday is our first School
Spirit Day. Spirit Days will always be the last Friday of each month. Each
month the money collected is donated to charity organizations. This month we
will send our donation the Juvenile Diabetes Association. The dress code is in
the student handbook. (Found in the front of each planner.)
Did you notice all the tennis balls
on the chair legs? We have found that they make the room much quieter and help
keep the wax on the floor. We can use a couple of thousand more! This summer,
Mrs. Weller, discovered that they clean easily in the washing machine. If you have any to donate, please send them
to the school office.
Band drop off is not working very
well. Once again, please do not pull
into the Boomer Road side lot if you are heading from North Bend toward the
tennis courts. Please enter the main lot and either drop your musician off by
the Mary Shrine or drive all the way around past the concession stand and the
tennis court to Boomer. If you are on Boomer heading toward North Bend Road,
traffic should be able to flow if you make a slight right into the Boomer Rd.
lot, drop off, and merge back into Boomer Road. It does not work if you pull in
and then need to back up.
Next Tuesday at 9:15 is our all
school mission Mass. We will commission the students to serve as missionaries
in their community, city, and world. Everyone is invited.
On Wednesday, we joined thousands of
schools around the world in a "See You at the Pole" prayer
service. We prayed outside to show our
solidarity with students in public schools who are not permitted to pray in
their classrooms. Thanks to Mr. Davis and his students for planning and leading
the service.
Please keep fifth grade teacher Mrs.
Keith in your prayers. She is on an unexpected medical leave for personal
health reasons. Her doctors say she should be able to return in a few weeks.
