Pete As all of you may (or may not) know, our seminarian intern Adam decided to leave the seminary and thus ending his relationship with St. Ignatius. Adam said that this was not an easy choice, and I can understand that. To lay down one's life in service of our God, in the service of the Son and Spirit, one must be wholly committed. He did not want to get up in front of everyone on Sunday and put on a show that he himself did not yet fully believe he could fulfill. The hardest part to undertaking the vocation of priesthood or the life
of a professed religious sister or brother is the ability to put yourself
constantly second to the will of God. As a seminarian the obstacles of
doubt, worth, piety and the ability to serve God with all ones mind heart
and soul are always there. Some have a peace of mind and soul that let
them understand that these are only obstacles and that they can be overcome
by will and certainty of choice. Some seminarians give counsel to these
doubts and that is when fear comes into play and clouds one's self worth
or ability. There are many obstacles this vocation uncovers when one places
themselves in a very public forum. This world and even our society at
times says that to be successful you must be liked by all, and as a priest
that will never be the case. One has to accept this fact and still go
about trying to do the best they can to serve God's people. But the call
to the priesthood, is greater than any obstacle and the call to serve
must always be a willing choice and freely given. A commitment to God in the service of the ordained or professed life is not and will never be an easy choice. To be a servant leader in today's world is not always understood or even accepted, but yet we must continue to encourage young men and women to see the glory of this calling and it's importance to the Church and to the world. One of my goals for St. I's has been and will always be to see one of our own take of the cross and follow the path of Christ by offering their life in the service of the Priesthood and Religious life. Please pray for vocations! Fr. Pete GET THE NEW! 2007 ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS!! Help the 8th grade Girl Scouts with their fall fundraiser. PACE: Do you have a KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS card? If not, you are missing a FREE and EASY opportunity to support St. I's. The Kroger Community Rewards card is a reloadable gift card you can use to purchase gas and groceries. Whenever you load it, St. I's receives 4% of the amount you place on the card. There is no catch - the card is free to get and free to use, and there are no restrictions on what you can buy with it. You can use it in conjunction with a Kroger Plus card and/or a Kroger 1-2-3 credit card and receive the benefits of those cards too. The 4% St. I's receives from these cards really adds up! Consider this: If your family spends just $100 on groceries each week for a year using a Kroger Community Rewards card, St. I's would receive $208 this year, just from your regular grocery purchases. With the number of families in our parish, these cards have the potential to make a phenomenal impact on our parish and our school! For every $50 you load on a Kroger card, you receive an entry in a monthly drawing for $100 in Kroger or other gift cards, as well as an entry in an annual drawing for free tuition.
