Lenten Penance Service at St. Ignatius is Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00pm.
Lenten Penance Services In Other Areas
St. Margaret Mary              March 11 – 7:00pm
St. Ann               March 17 – 7:30pm

The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics 14 years and older. The obligation to do penance is a serious one. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.

Stations of the Cross: During Lent please come to walk with Jesus on His road to Calvary and Crucifixion on Gabbatha (the place of the skull). Stations are at 2:15pm on Mondays and 7:30pm on Fridays.

Confessions: 7-7:30pm Monday, No Confessions on Monday March 17; 10-10:30am Wednesday, 3-4:00 pm Saturday.

Tuesday Evening Novena: 6:30-7:15pm

Tenebrae: Monday, March 17 – 7:00 – 8:00 PM

Operation Rice Bowl: Each year St. Ignatius Parish during Lent supports the work of the Holy Childhood Mission Office and San Jose Parish Medical Clinic through the Rice Bowls. Lenten Calendars and Rice Bowls were given to each child in our grade school. Additional ones are at the church doors. This program gives us the opportunity to share with our world family through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

RCIA: On the Fifth Sunday of Lent the “elect” will be attending Noon Mass for the Third Scrutiny and the presentation of the Lord’s Prayer. On Wednesday, they will be attending the Communal Reconciliation Service in Church. Please continue to pray for the “elect” during their faith journey.

The Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Mercy, has recently formed at St. Ignatius and is looking for new active and auxiliary members. Our mission includes welcoming new parishioners and sharing the Faith with non-Catholics, with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. The Legion of Mary has weekly prayer meetings on Tuesday evenings at 7PM in the Fr. Seaman room and our Spiritual Director is Fr. McCarthy. For more information, call Kara Tencza.

The Men of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary and The Legion of Mary will be at St. I’s on March 8th & 9th to present the Enthronement Program to St. I’s parish. There will be a 5 minute talk after each mass and literature available by Fr. Wall’s confessional. There will be a display of Images of the Sacred Hearts for those who need one to enthrone their home, apartment, etc. Questions? Call Tony Thornbury or Jim Sunderhaus.

The Way of Love Walk hopes you can join the hundreds who participated last weekend, to pray for a “change of hearts”. Now in its sixth year, the Walk begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 9th and 16th at the Burnet Woods gazebo, just across from Good Sam Hospital. Join us as we pray for those who are thinking about abortion as an option, for those who have been hurt by the pain of abortion: wives, fathers, grandparents, etc. and those who perform abortions. We ask our Lord and His Mother to hear our prayers and change the cycle of abortion that stains our country. For additional info, call.

Catholic Teaching on the Call to Family, Community, and Participation: The human person is not only sacred, but social. The God-given institutions of marriage – a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman – and family are central and serve as the foundations for social life. Marriage and family should be supported and strengthened, not undermined. Every person has a right to participate in social, economic, and political life and a corresponding duty to work for the advancement of the common good and the well-being of all, especially the poor and weak. – USCCB Administrative Committee, Faithful citizenship: a Catholic Call to Political Responsibility, p.13.

Please pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal. 100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons. Our parish goal this year is $44,500.00. Please be generous.

Our sincerest sympathy is extended to the family of Timothy Donohue, Sr. husband of Sandy, father of Tara, Tim, Jr., Dennis, Shane, and Kimberly; grandfather of Chloe, Noah; son of Ruth and brother of Jim; and Margaret Staudigel, wife of Richard. May their families find comfort in knowing they are with God.

Are you scared of moving on after the death of your loved one? These are all perfectly normal. Come listen, share, and learn how to grieve for what you have lost and believe in better tomorrows. Bereavement Sessions for all Denominations “We all have one thing in common, we have lost someone we love”. Here at St. Ignatius Monthly – second Tuesday 10:00am to 12:00 Noon. Next Session: Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

A Few Words
From
Fr. Pete

This past week St. Ignatius held our Lenten Parish Mission. Our topic was forgiveness. It is something we are called to do throughout our lives and on a daily basis. We are provided with countless opportunities to forgive those around us and even ourselves each and everyday. But sometimes we encounter problems or stumbling blocks when it comes to forgiveness.

Peter asked Christ, “how many times must I forgive someone, 7?” and Christ answered, “No, 70 times 7.” This may seem like a lot but really if you think about it, it is not. How many times have we forgiven someone only to brood over the offending action at a later date or let it permanently scar our relationship with that person, because we truly cannot ‘forgive and forget’. The hard part of being human is not the forgiving part but the forgetting. We must forgive whatever action or event that offends us not just once but over and over and over again. Why because we have not yet willingly forgotten it.

To truly forget is almost impossible but with grace and strength we can change the way in which we remember. Instead of remembering the offense and have that standing right in front of our eyes we must train ourselves to truly and fully accept that fact that we forgave and have that dictate our actions and emotions. We must forgive in the same way Christ forgave. Each time Christ picked himself off the ground as He walked to His death He had to forgive those who saddled Him with His cross. As He stretched out His arms between heaven and earth He forgave. All the while not focusing their actions but on the will of God to reconcile all things to Himself. Through the sacrament of Penance Christ continues to offer us this same gift. When we confess our sins and receive and complete the penance, God forgives us and most importantly forgets the offense. God is willing to forget while we may not want to or be able to. Through the sacrament we gain a grace that we cannot give ourselves, a clean slate, a whole soul an unwounded spirit which is how we can teach ourselves to train our minds and spirits, lift ourselves beyond the hurt and see ourselves with Christ and sharing His passion.
