Pope John Paul II insists, We are all really responsible for all. Loving our neighbor has global dimensions in a shrinking world. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. Pope Paul VI taught that if you want peace, work for justice. The Gospel calls us to be sentinels of peace in a world wounded by violence and conflict. USCCB Administrative Committee, Faithful Citizenship: a Catholic Call to Political Responsibility, p. 15. Please pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal. 100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons. Our parish goal this year is $44,500.00. Please be generous. Our sincerest sympathy is extended to the families of Joyce Bishop, wife of Robert, mother of Randy (Jamie), grandmother of Rikki and Katie; and Alice Duenhoft, mother of Janet (Robert) Hewald, and Marilyn (Dennis) Heffron, grandmother of Kristen (Matt) Staarmann, great-grandmother of Grace & Jack. May their families find comfort in knowing they are with God. From Our Pastoral Associate A group of us here at the parish have been Journeying with Saint Paul since last October, taking a closer look at his life and his theology. One of the things weve learned is that many of the Churchs most respected Scripture scholars say Pauls writings are easily misinterpreted, especially today. They say that we live in a time that emphasizes the individual. Paul, on the other hand, writes from a different perspective. He understood that all human beings are caught up in a much bigger story than their own. And for Paul, that bigger story which were all caught up in is Christs own.
Its precisely because we dont journey through life alone, because each of usfrom our birthare caught up and swept along in a Life much bigger and stronger than our own, that our own little stories are able to eventually wind up in the very same place that Jesus own did. Our witnesses testified to that, too: we heard seven different rising from the dead experiences during our Mission Week, and every one of them was an Easter story that left us with a lot to pray about. Often, they left us in a very precious kind of tears. Thank you, dear wonderful and generous parishioners who shared your souls with us during our Mission week. Whatno, Whoyou offered us was a priceless gift. You offered us Christ. For Paul, Jesus life reveals the pattern that every human life must take. We all walk our own Via Dolorosa; we all die. But because we are all also swept up into the Bigger Story that is Christs own, we can be sure that, just as crucifixion didnt have the last word in Jesus life, neither will it have the last word in our own. The great truth is that we human beings are a people swept up into a Bigger Story that astonishingly leads to Resurrection and Eternal Life! And perhaps the greatest truth of all (as Paul knew) is that Jesus is the one who not only reveals the pattern that we all participate in; Christ IS that very Mystery! And so whatever road we walk, we are never alone: Christ is with us always, even until the end of time.
