The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics 14 years and older. The obligation to do penance is a serious one. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered
a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.

Stations of the Cross: During Lent please come to walk with Jesus on His road to Calvary and Crucifixion on Gabbatha (the place of the skull). Stations are at 2:15pm on Mondays and 7:30pm on Fridays.

Confessions: 7-7:30pm Monday, 10-10:30am Wednesday, 3-4:00pm Saturday.

Tuesday Evening Novena: 6:45-7:30pm

Lenten Penance Service at St. Ignatius is Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00pm.

This program gives us the opportunity to share with our world family through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

RCIA: On the Third Sunday of Lent, the "elect" will be attending the 7:30 Mass for the First Scrutiny. On Wednesday evening, the class is Questions and Answers (Overview of Enlightenment). Please continue to pray for the "elect" during their faith journey.

Set aside Monday through Thursday evenings, March 3rd through March 6th from 7:30-8:45pm to participate in this Lenten tradition. A different member of our Pastoral Team will offer their reflection on Scripture and a witness talk will be given by two parishioners each night. Tuesday evening’s service includes the “Via Dolorosa” performed by our liturgical dancers. On Wednesday, the young people who are part of The Reenactment this year give us a glimpse into the story of Peter’s denial. Catholic Ministries Appeal

Dear Parishioners,
Here in our local church, God has blessed us with vibrant Catholic ministries for nearly 200 years. Today we continue that tradition with generous hearts as we answer Christ’s call to serve one another. It’s time for you and me to renew our support of Catholic Social Services, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, retired priests, and chaplains for hospitals, prisons, and college campus ministries.

Please help your parish meet its financial goal for these vital regional ministries. In the next few weeks, you will be hearing more about the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Every penny you contribute to the Appeal supports those specific ministries. No monies are retained by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for administrative expenses or for any other purpose. In addition, your parish retains 10% of all donations that exceed your goal.

To make your pledge for the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please go to our website at CatholicAppeal.net or use the envelope provided at Mass.

Christ calls us to serve and share with one another. With grateful and generous hearts we respond to further His Kingdom. Thank you for your generous response.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Buddy La Rosa
Honorary Chair

Please pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Our parish goal this year is $44,500.00.

Greeting On A Snowy Day
From
Fr. Pete

Well they just canceled school, I am sure all the kids are happy. I am not too sure about all the parents now having to reschedule their day. But it is beautiful out! I enjoy days like this, I enjoy getting out and shoveling a little snow in front of the church and school and greeting people as they fight the elements to put themselves in the presence of Christ. To see such devotion can only make one realize just how special our Church and faith are. That people would fight slippery roads and crazy drivers and the snarled traffic to receive the Sacred Body and Blood.

It is passion, passion that makes people drive through any weather, overcome any traffic to receive such a gift. This happens all the time and not just today, I have had 7:00 am Mass when the weather was much worse and still there are people willing to open up the parish on time and celebrate the sacred liturgy. Passion. Days like this can put us in touch with the greatest passion of all, Christ’s.

We may grumble and complain a little about the inconvenience of days like today but days like today are not really that big of a hassle. Christ faced a much tougher road, one on which he slipped and fell three times and each time got up for you and me. Many of us may have lent a hand to a neighbor or stranger to get a car back on the road or a driveway shoveled. In our own little way we acted just like Simon who helps Christ carry his cross. Little acts of Passion add up and mean a lot.

Yes, I like days like today. And after writing this little reflection I believe I like them even more. The Passion of Christ is always there for us to participate in and celebrate. What may seem ordinary when looked at closer maybe more than they seem. Let us take time this Lent to set some time aside to reflect on our daily lives and highlight those events in the ordinary that make us extraordinary in the eyes of God and His Son. Have a joyful Lent everyone!

Fr. Pete

Catholic Social Teaching

In January, representatives from 36 parishes in Cincinnati, working with the Social Action, Respect Life, Mission and Worship Offices of the Archdiocese, met at St. Ignatius. All those in attendance were challenged to make the Catholic Church’s Social Teaching better known in their parishes. These teachings should serve as excellent guidelines for the people involved in various social ministries throughout the archdiocese. Among the most obvious approaches to addressing the above challenge for those of us at St. Ignatius Parish is to begin by utilizing the space in the Sunday bulletins and the INSIGHT to highlight Catholic Social Teaching. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has written a concise summary taken from papal, conciliar, and Episcopal documents and entitled it, “Seven Themes from Catholic Social Teaching.” Next week we will begin sharing these teachings with what the bishops consider to be the very foundation of the church’s moral vision for society; namely, “Life and Dignity of the Human Person.” Look for brief accounts of the other six themes in the Sunday bulletins in the weeks ahead. Questions? Call Bill Re
