The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics 14 years and older. The obligation to do penance is a serious one. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered
a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.

Stations of the Cross: During Lent please come to walk with
Jesus on His road to Calvary and Crucifixion on Gabbatha (the place of the skull). Stations are at 2:15pm on Mondays and 7:30pm on Fridays.

Confessions: 7-7:30pm Monday, 10-10:30am Wednesday, 3-4:00pm Saturday.

Tuesday Evening Novena: 6:45-7:30pm

Lenten Penance Service at St. Ignatius is Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00pm.

Operation Rice Bowl: Each year St. Ignatius Parish during Lent supports the work of the Holy Childhood Mission Office and San Jose Parish Medical Clinic through the Rice Bowls. Lenten Calendars and Rice Bowls were given to each child in our grade school. Additional ones are at the church doors. This program gives us the opportunity to share with our world family through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

The first financial kick-off for Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) is parish commitment week-end (February 16/17). Pledge envelopes will be in the pews on this week-end. All CMA monies fund six ministries to include pastoral education (seminarians, deacons, and lay pastoral ministers), Catholic Social Services, St. Rita School for the Deaf, chaplains for hospitals and prisons, retired archdiocesan priests, and college campus ministries. For the first time, donors will have the opportunity to make electronic payments by credit card and automatic bank drafts from checking and savings accounts. Please be generous and share. A second collection envelope for CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL (CMA), formerly called
the Archdiocesan Fund Drive
, will be taken at all the Masses the week-end of March 1 & 2.

Here in St. Ignatius church we will have a Healing Service on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30pm. Personal prayer for healing will be available during the Service. Questions? Call Sister Chris.

2008 is the 150th Anniversary of Mary’s Apparition to St. Bernadette at Lourdes, France. Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is the Archdiocesan Shrine to receive a plenary indulgence between February 2nd and 11th. For information call Lourdes (922-0715).

Kiwanis Fish Fry at the Concession Building behind the Church begins Ash Wednesday, February 6 and continues every Friday during Lent. The hours are 4:30-7:00pm. The menu includes fish sandwiches, fish, shrimp, or chicken dinners. Use the convenient drive-up window for takeout orders or eat inside the building.

Our sincerest sympathy is extended to the family of Delores Sutter, wife of +Howard; Sheryl Stewart, mother of Denver & Travis. May their families find comfort in knowing they are with God.

Prayer Shawl Ministry has a prayer shawl for anyone experiencing medical or emotional difficulties. A prayer shawl is a knitted or crocheted garment that has been prayed over and is beautifully wrapped with a prayer card attached. If you would like to receive one or become part of the ministry, please contact Lora Huhn.

Our Students of St. Ignatius School will be praying for vocations to the priesthood, the order of deacon, and to religious
communities this Friday, February 15. We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in church Friday from 10:00am- 3:15pm. The students will come to church with their teachers for periods of 15-30 minutes to praise our Eucharistic Lord and pray for vocations.

Thank you to those taking the Vocation Chalice. To have a Vocation Chalice in your home, call the Parish Office or to help with our Vocation Committee call Dennis Halaby. We encourage all parishioners (young, old, single, married, etc.) to participate in this ministry.

A Few Words
From
Fr. Pete

Welcome to Lent everyone! It does seem as if it came real early this year, and it did. This is almost the earliest date possible for Lent to begin. I hope everyone has given thought to possible things to sacrifice in your daily life to offer up this season. Once again I urge you to meditate upon your relations, with God, Family, Friends, Work, and Community, and give up something that hinders them. Give up something that you truly want to be rid of, and not return to after Lent is over. As I have said many time before Lent is not a church sponsored diet program; it is much, much more! Lent is here for us to reflect upon life and our call to take part in the passion of Christ. My wish for everyone at St. I’s is that you will find new ways of letting Christ work through you and in you; so that when Easter arrives it will be a most joyful experience ever.

Next week we kick off our Catholic Ministries Appeal. Pledge envelopes will be in the pews and for the 1st time you will also have the opportunity to make donations by credit card and automatic bank drafts and/or a one-time gift. The Catholic Ministries Appeal funds six ministries, Catholic Social Services, St. Rita School for the Deaf, Campus Ministry, Chaplains for Hospitals and Prisons, Pastoral Ministry Education (formation and education of priest and lay pastoral ministers) and Retired Priest ( Fr. John and Fr. Don are just two wonderful examples who benefit from this appeal). If every family gives a gift of $20.00 we will more than reach our goal! So thank you for your generous support to this very important event for the Archdiocese.
God Bless
Fr. Pete

Alumni We challenge You! The students and teachers have collected $1,094.00 on Spirit Wear Friday to support the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Cancer Camp. We would like to challenge you to meet (or beat) our donation.
Camp is July 2008 at Camp Joy, Wilmington, OH for 1 week. The children swim, canoe, do crafts, play ball games, have water balloon fights, roast marshmallows and sleep in tents and cabins!

Camp is for patients with cancer, sickle cell anemia, and hemophilia. Children ages 6 years to high school can attend camp. The cost to send a patient to Camp Joy is about $500.00. Some of our families are unable to send their son/daughter to camp without financial support from the Hematology/Oncology Division. The money we raise with the community and local schools provides the opportunity for the patients to experience summer camp while in treatment.

Please make checks payable to CHMC or St. Ignatius School and place in an envelope marked “Cancer Camp”. You can turn them in at the Parish or School Office. Questions? Call Debbie Colina. The deadline is February 17th. Let the challenge begin!

Respect Life News: St. Ignatius Respect Life members meet Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00pm in the Parish Office. Topics include: our annual Bake Sale to support moms and babies, and Project 5000 to stock the pantry of Mercy Franciscan at St. John Social Service Center so families won’t go hungry this Spring. Good things are happening, be a part!

The annual Way Of Love Walk takes place three consecutive Sundays beginning March 2 at Burnet Woods. Participants meet at 2:00, and walk together on behalf of all involved with abortion. This lent experience is worthy of your time, carefully planned, and is especially meaningful. All St. Ignatius parish members are encouraged to attend one or all of the walks.

Several Pregnancy Centers are able to serve their clients due in part to the generosity of our parish members through our fund raisers and annual baby shower. There are also several members of our Church who give generously of their time as volunteers. Please consider joining this elect group of care givers to any of the pregnancy care centers. Old St. Mary Pregnancy Center often requests assistance, and staff and clients eager for your help, whether it is once a week or once a month. Jenny Wendling (661-6764) can answer any of your questions.

Veterans History Project: The Library of Congress is sponsoring this project in order to preserve the oral histories of America's war veterans and those who served in support of them. The histories will be included in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress and/or the World War II Museum in New Orleans as appropriate. They will serve as a scholarly and educational resource documenting the American veterans’ wartime experiences. The histories will be preserved for the benefit of the present and all future generations. Fr. Pete has graciously consented to be interviewed concerning his Marine Corps service as a Chaplain in Iraq. Any other individual with wartime service in any branch of the military, or anyone with a wartime work record in a critical support position, who would be interested in being interviewed as a part of the project should please call Rudy Jansen
