HAPPY NEW YEAR Even though our liturgical New Year began on the 1st Sunday of Advent, there is something special about this Holiday. Maybe it is a curious mix of the past and the unknowable future, or if you are young, the chance to stay up late. I dont know, but for 99.9% of all people the hope of a not just a better tomorrow looms but the chance of real change, growth and improvement. A New Year offers more time to cast aside habits that are unwanted, and a greater chance to model our lives after the one life that should be reflected in everyone. Maybe that is why I like January 1st, time and the two parish calendars, I have lugged around dont seem as heavy. The year is full of possibilities and new chances. Nothing has been cast in stone and all our plans to improve ourselves and our parish have a new lease on time. I also like the fact that we can reflect on what has taken place and give thanks. This New Year marks my 1st complete year and while I make no claims to know every little detail about our wonderful parish, I can see growth and a deepening of knowledge. And this improvement is thanks to all of you; To the many who have invited me into your homes and share in your family; To watching a wonderful 8th grade class graduate and be replaced by an equally energetic and caring one. There are countless examples of the way in which you have helped me grow and improve, so THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TIME TO GROW, IT TAKES MORE THAN A YEAR TO UNDERSTAND THE GIFT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN BY THE ARCHBISHOP AND EVEN LONGER TO COMFORTABLY FILL THAT ROLE AS SERVANT LEADER. Thank you to our wonderful staff who give their all to making sure that we grow stronger with each passing day; Jeanne, Lisa and Marlene the heart of the Parish Office; To Barb, who provides the means for us to reduce our debt via her wonderful management of BINGO and the FESTIVAL (and does so throughout the whole year with little fanfare or public knowledge); Thanks Kris for all you do for our youth (and all your helpers too!). Thanks to Sister Lucy, who keeps getting stronger and more inventive with each passing day! Thanks to Frank for giving us the means to improve our facilities and thus our spiritual lives. Thanks to Tim Schweikert and his crew who go above and beyond the call of duty everyday and to Tim Reilly who is giving us the best school possible. Thanks to Fr. John and Fr. Don for putting up with the crazy youngster in the rectory and Liam! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Bagel Strips: the 7th grade Girls Scouts are selling bagel strips from Panera Bread for $12.00 each. The strips are good for free bagels or breads, brownies or cookies, and the proceeds are used to fund activities for the girls pursuing their Marion Award next year. The strips make great Christmas gifts. If interested, contact Beth Kemble. Parish Health Ministry: Holiday Stress?
