A Few Words From Fr. Pete

I know I have used this word more than once to express my wonder and amazement at the happenings here at St. I's, but WOW! I mean ……. WOW!!!!!! What a wonderful relationship you have with the Parishes of Nuestra Senora del Milagro (Our Lady of the Miracle) and San Pedro Nolasco in Guatemala. You would not believe all the prayers they offer for us on a daily basis and all the intentions that are offered at all their Masses for us. They truly are a wonderful and faithful people.

You could tell that our trip to Guatemala was going be to a blessed experience when we where met, by at least 40 men, women and children, late at night in the airport. They cheered, they sang and many even cried with joy at our coming to visit their Parish and their lovely country. They couldn't wait to show us what they have been able to do with the generous gifts you have blessed them with; a new roof for the parish of San Jose and cement blocks that were used to build the walls of San Juan. Not to mention the clinic which care for some 15,000 poor and needy. With your help you are making sure that new mothers are provided with classes in nutrition for their children (Guatemala has the highest mal-nutrition rate in this hemisphere); you are providing much needed medical and dental care for both adults and their children.

Even with differences in language, culture and diet, there was nothing that stood in the way of our friends expressing their true and unconditional love for each one of us. With the outstanding leadership of Greg Lamping (a man blessed with never ending enthusiasm and fluent Spanish) I believe we are able to express fully the feelings and prayers of all the members of St. I's. With only the gift of our presence in their midst, they welcomed us as if we have provided each of them with all the gold and silver in the world. And thanks to Greg for making sure they understood all our thanks for caring for us and taking us in as true brothers and sisters in Christ. Throughout the next few weeks you will have the opportunity of reading some of the experiences of those who went on this mission of friendship and hope.

I simply do not have enough words to express my joy at being in their presence and sharing in there lives, their faith, their family, their homes and their sorrows. I know I speak for Greg Lamping, Sandi Auberger, Bill Tonnis, Bill and Dan Magness, Robert Wood, Jessica Daily, that this mission has changed our life and opened our eyes to the greater family of God, the truth that we are of one body in Christ and true riches are those that come from the Spirit.
To Give and not Count the Cost,

Fr. Pete
