This Sundays Gospel is a very interesting one. Luke tells us about it. Here are two disciples, having gone through the whole tragic time of Jesus death talking about what had happened and a total stranger (later Jesus) walks along with them and asks what they are so concerned about. They are surprised that there could be someone in the city that did not know about the events of Friday and Sunday. But the stranger tells them about the Scriptures and all the references that apply to Him. They were caught up in this wonderful moment and even said later, Were not our hearts burning within us as He explained the scriptures to us. But Jesus pretending to want to go on the journey further is persuaded to stay with them at a meal. He does this and they recognize Him when He breaks bread. He was really offering them the Holy Eucharist. With that, they recognized Him. Somehow the story has to hit us with the question of how do we recognize the Christ in our own lives in the modern world in which we live? And the answers are many; in the collection for the poor under the care of St. Vincent de Paul; the help we give as a parish to the Soup Kitchen; the many collections we have in the course of a year for very worthy causes; for bringing Communion to those homebound. But sometimes, it comes to one on one. Perhaps our spouse really needs to talk; one of our children needs some directions; Grandma or Grandpa needs to be visited or phoned; a neighbor needs help around the house; a young mother with several small children needs a break. The question hits us all at times where do we recognize Jesus? When we break bread at Mass we are all the Body
of
Christ and need to see that Body in the suffering of one another.
Seeing the Christ in another is sometimes hard; but we are
called to that moment. Jesus said Whatever you do to the least
of my brethren, you do to Me. DISCOVER: We are a 20s/30s Christian based group designed to grow together and walk this journey with one another. Through guest speakers, presentations, videos, and small group discussions we will empower each other to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today, foster spiritual and personal growth within one another, and encourage participation in the faith community we live in. So come in and DISCOVER for yourself what we are all about. Next meeting will be April 8 at 7:30pm in the Fr. Gratsch Room (Room A), where we will have a guest speaker come and talk about the Sacrament of Marriage. Questions? Please contact Rod or Andrea.
