St. Ignatius Athletic Association's Code of Conduct Saint Ignatius Athletic AssociationCode of Conduct - 12/10/96(Revised 3/14/2006) Mission Statement: As an extension of Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish, a Roman Catholic community, Saint Ignatius Athletic Association exists to supplement the Christian values being taught to the children of Saint Ignatius parish through participation in sports. Through generously giving of our time and talents, we strive to make quality instruction and resources available to every child in the parish. We will provide participants a safe environment so that they can learn the sportsmanship, build self-confidence and develop respect for themselves, their teammates, coaches, parents and officials. Guiding Principles It should be self evident from our conduct that we are a Roman Catholic organization. Provide an enjoyable, constructive outlet for our children. Stress fundamentals, developing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Compete to the best of our ability and accept the results. Ensure a safe environment for all children to confidently participate in sports. Develop respect and appreciation of our God given talents and blessings. Players: Attend all practices. Unexcused absences may result in reduced playing time. Your coaches require respect, attention and hustle during practices and games. Learn the game and play to the best of your ability. Support and encourage your teammates developing a spirit of cooperation. Have fun and accept winning or losing graciously. Conduct yourselves as proper Christian youth at all times. Do not display behavior, which is intended to embarrass, ridicule or demean others under any circumstances. Proper care and maintenance of all equipment and uniforms provided is required. These items are to be promptly returned in good condition at the end of the season. Uniforms are for games. They are not to be worn for practice or play.
Coaches: All coaches must complete the Archdiocesan Child Protection Decree Program and be finger printed through the Archdiocese. Ejection from a game will result in a suspension from the following game. The coordinator of the sport involved will review the instance for possible additional sanction. Emphasize four learning goals for the players: Skills, Teamwork and Cooperation, Good Sportsmanship, and Enjoyment. A minimum of two adults must be present at every practice and game. We will not "ride" the officials. Conduct yourselves as proper Christian adults at all times. Do not display behavior, which is intended to embarrass, ridicule or demean others under any circumstances. Inappropriate language on the playing field or sidelines from coaches will not be tolerated by the St. Ignatius Athletic Association. Inappropriate language is defined as any foul word that is spoken in anger which degrades a player, official or other individual. This type of language will not be permitted and will be met with disciplinary action if officially brought to the Association’s attention in writing to the President of the Association.
Parents/Spectators:
Support and respect our efforts. Common courtesy is appreciated. Raise major issues with the coordinator or the Athletic Association Board. Please do not instruct the players on the specifics of the game. Work suggestions through the coach. We will not "ride" the officials. Conduct yourselves as proper Christian adults at all times. Do not display behavior, which is intended to embarrass, ridicule or demean others under any circumstances. Inappropriate language on the sidelines from parents or spectators will not be tolerated by the St. Ignatius Athletic Association. Inappropriate language is defined as any foul word that is spoken in anger that degrades a player, official or other individual. This type of language will not be permitted and will be met with disciplinary action if officially brought to the Association’s attention in writing to the President of the Association.
Violations:
Any player, coach, parent or spectator accused, in writing, to be in violation of this Code of Conduct may be subject to an investigation by the Athletic Association Board of Trustees, in accordance with the Guidelines and Procedures for Investigating Misconduct. If the Board of Trustees determines that a violation did occur, disciplinary action may be taken as necessary to restore the Mission and Guiding Principles detailed in this Code of Conduct. The following actions may be taken, if deemed necessary: · Warning with probation for one year. · Suspension from coaching or attending a specific number of games and practices. · Suspension from coaching or attending games and practices for the remainder of that sport’s season · Suspension from coaching or attending games and practices for a specified length of time, less than one year. This suspension will apply to all sports. · Suspension from coaching or attending games and practices for one full year. This suspension will apply to all sports. · Permanent suspension from coaching or attending games and practices. This suspension will apply to all sports. The Board is not limited to only the actions listed above. The Board has the authority to implement other disciplinary actions if the situation warrants it.
Guidelines and Procedures for Investigating Misconduct The following guidelines and procedures have been established to help enforce the St. Ignatius Athletic Association Code of Conduct, while ensuring the fair treatment of all parties involved. These steps should be followed when the conduct of a person associated with the program has been questioned. This procedure should be conducted with respect for those involved and done in a timely, but thorough manner. 1. Has a written complaint been presented to the Board? A written complaint must be filed with the President of the Athletic Association. If a person makes a verbal complaint, that person should be made aware of this written requirement, in order for the board to proceed. If there has not been a written complaint, then the Board will not proceed with the investigation. If there has been a written complaint, the following steps will be taken. 2. The President shall appoint a Coordinator to investigate the complaint. The coordinator should be from a sport unrelated to the incident. Ideally, this coordinator will not be affiliated with any of the involved parties. 3. The investigation will include: a. A description of the incident by the complainant. b. A description of the incident by the person(s) whose conduct is being questioned. c. Descriptions of the incident by others who were involved in the incident. d. Descriptions of the incident by any other witnesses. e. A list of those contacted during the investigation.
4. When the investigation is completed by the appointed Coordinator, he shall present his report to the Board at a special meeting. The person being investigated may attend this meeting. After reviewing the report and all pertinent questions have been addressed, the Board will hold a closed-door meeting to first decide if disciplinary action should be taken, and if so, what action will be taken. 5. The President will provide the person being investigated with a written notification of the Board’s decision. |
