Yesterday began with a whole group meeting with the representative from the mayor's office who helped arrange the exchange in France. We met at 10:00 and spent the next hour sharing our thoughts and experiences with her. We were very proud of our students. They all participated and effectively communicated what they experienced in Nancy. The representative was impressed!
After lunch at school, we shopped til we dropped in Nancy. The end of the week came so quickly. The host parents held a reception to say goodbye and then all the students returned to the host family homes to pack, shower, and get to bed early.
We met at the train station at 6:30 am! Most of us slept on the train. After navigating the subway system again, we shopped in Paris to get last minute souveniers. We are now at the Hotel at the airport and trying to purge our suitcases of unneeded items so we stay under the weight limit. We'll eat breakfast at 7:00 and leave for the airport shortly after.
As I think about all we have experienced the past 9 days, I realize how lucky we are to have this opportunity to share another culture. We have made some life long friends in Nancy and look forward to hosting them in Cincinnati in the fall.
Mr. Donoghue, Mr. Meeks, and I have been able to get to know these 10 students and have come to admire their courage and respect their desire to try new things. So many good things!
See you tomorrow in the good old USA!
