A Message from the Director:

Welcome! The teachers and staff of St. Ignatius Parish School of Religion (PSR) would like to welcome each of you and your family to the Parish School of Religion Program this year.

As must of you know, Bill Grimme, our 8th Grade and most recently 7th Confirmation Teacher passed away in August from a stroke he suffered. We will truly miss Bill for his many, many years of teaching and for all his knowledge. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Our theme for this year is: "Put the "I" in Christ". This is based on 1Timothy 5:13-14, "Let no one look down on you because of your youth, but be a continuing example of love, faith and purity to believers…devote yourself to the reading of Scripture, preaching and teaching. "
Each month the students will be given a handprint with a Scripture verse on it to remind them of our theme. Please ask them about it.

THANK YOU! Like you, our teachers have made a huge commitment to this program; preparing lesson plans and setting aside Sunday mornings from September to May to teach the children. "Parents are the first and most important educators of their children and they also possess a fundamental competence in this area: they are educators because they are parents." Pope John Paul II stated this in his November 1994 apostolic blessing to Catholic homes-educating families in the United States.

PSR CLASSES: Class starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m. We need your commitment to have the students attend classes every week, be well prepared and give their best effort. We know that by working together, we can make this a fantastic year!

Parent/Student Handbook: Please make sure that you read the Parent/Student Handbook and please return the Acknowledgement form after you sign it. This may be returned to your child's teacher.

WHAT"S HAPPENING: Please check the bulletin boards (near the entrance doors) for any upcoming events or information. Don't miss the Parish School of Religion Bulletin Wall near the ramp door entrance that regularly displays projects that the students have done.

Student/Parent P.S.R. Newsletter. Each month, you will receive a Student/Parent P.S.R. Newsletter. It will have a lot of information in it of all the things that are happening during the month. Please make sure that you take the time to read it so that you will be well informed of what is going on it the Parish School of Religion program.

QUESTIONS or CONCERNS? If you have questions or concerns, please do not let them continue all year, stop by the PSR Office (follow the arrows) on Sunday morning so we can discuss the situation and take care of it. I will be glad to help in any way I can.

2007-2008 FOCUS: This year, our focus will be on the Mass. Each month a different grade has signed up to put a project on the bulletin wall about a specific part of the Mass. Please take the time to stop by and look at it.

I would like to introduce to you this year's teachers:

Preschool - Christy Weber is returning as our Preschool teacher. This is her second year of teaching preschool. She is so excited about teaching this year and has many new ideas. She is also responsible for the Market Day Program here at St. Ignatius, so if you have any questions or want to place an order, please stop by and see her. She has two children who go to St. I's.

Kindergarten - Lori Fronk is returning as our Kindergarten teacher. Lori brings much enthusiasm and lots of ideas for the students this year. She and her husband, Tom (who is teaching Second grade) are very involved in the parish. They have two children who go to St. I's.

Grade 1 - Janet Wimberg joins us this year as our First Grade Teacher. She has a son who will be in Kindergarten this year. Her older children attended Parish School of Religion and you will see them in the class from time to time. Thanks for volunteering your time.

Grade 2 - Tom Fronk is returning as our Second Grade Teacher. Tom taught second grade last year and prior to that he taught fourth grade Parish School of Religion for two years. Tom is very excited about teaching a second grade again this year. He is also a CORE Adult member of the High School Life Teen Program that is held at St. Ignatius. If you have any questions, please stop by and talk to him.

Grade 3 - Sandy Arszman has been teaching third grade for eighteen years. Sandy has many creative ideas. Sandy and her husband Larry (who is teaching our combined seventh and eighth grade class) has been involved in our Parish School of Religion program for many years and all three of their children attended Parish School of Religion classes.

Grade 4 - Geri Tengler is returning as our Fourth Grade teacher. Geri is also attending school, so from time to time we may see her husband, Paul here helping.

Grade 5 - is our new Fifth Grade teacher.

Grade 6 - Rose Fromme is our returning Sixth Grade teacher. Rose began teaching when she was in high school. She has taught at St. Bernard's, St. James and here at St. Ignatius for a total of twenty-five years.

Grade 7/8 - Larry Arszman is our teacher for the combined Seventh and Eighth Grade class this year. As the seventh graders prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation the eighth graders will continue their faith journey as witnesses to the faith for these confirmation candidates. This combined class is similar to the RCIA program for adults. It gives the newly Confirmed opportunities to use their gifts and talents to help others while they continue to growth in their faith. Larry Arszman, like his wife Sandy, has been involved in Parish School of Religion for over seventeen years. The only difference is Larry does not do crafts!!! Larry and Sandy are both CORE Adult members of Life Teen, so if you have any questions, please ask them.

Kathy Kreimer is my right hand person. Her official title is Director's Assistant. She has been involved in the Parish School of Religion program for over sixteen years. She also keeps track of attendance, so please, if your child is sick or is going to be absent, please call her. I could not do it without her!

Marlene Schirmer is the Coordinator of Reconciliation and our Office Resource person. Marlene helps the teachers and children coordinate confession. Opportunity for Confessions is available during Advent and Lent each year. Please stop by our Resource Office if you are looking for resources or books and she will be able to help you find it. Marlene has been a Parish School of Religion teacher for four years before becoming the Coordinator for Reconciliation/Resource.

Kris Schoettmer is the Coordinator of the Religious Education program here at St. Ignatius. She has been at St. Ignatius for many, many years. She is my leader and inspiration.

I would like to thank each of them for all the time and talents they give to the Parish School of Religion program. This program would not exist without you, the teachers, and the students who come to class each week.

I would also like to "Thank" Father Pete St. George for his leadership in our program. And also, Father Don McCarthy, Father John Wall and Sister Lucy Zientek, C.D.P. for their excellent guidance and help with our program and always be available for us.

May we have a faith-filled year and may each student, teacher, and family be blessed in many ways.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann Bosse
