This ministry seeks to keep the spirit of sharing that the parish feels so deeply at Christmas alive throughout the year by inviting parishioners to bring canned and boxed food donations to Masses on the weekend closest to July 25th. Everything that is received helps to replenish the St. Leo Food Pantry.

Volunteers also pick up canned goods weekly from a metal two-drawer cabinet located in the vestibule of the parish office, where donations are collected throughout the year. These goods are delivered to St. Leo's Food Pantry as well. Monetary donations are accepted; please make check payable to St. Leo's Food Pantry and bring/mail to the parish office.

Jail Ministry

We provide a one hour worship serving non denominational (not a mass) praying and ministries to both male and female inmates at various locations in the Hamilton County Justice System. We also try to provide bibles to prisoners from donations of used bibles or donated funds that we use to buy Bibles. Through matching grants with the American Bible Society.

Our worship services usually consist of some singing of well known songs such as Amazing Grace and How Great thou Art, etc., personal testimonies of what God has and is doing in our lives and Bible teachings.

We distribute "One Bread One Body" booklets that we get from Presentations Ministries. Gary Limle will usually share a teaching from OBOB, or will use "My Daily Bread".

The team includes Gary and two other men, from Christian Assembly of God and Real Live Assembly of God. Both of these men have been involved in Jail & Prison Ministry and ministry to People in the Inner City for over 25 years. They have been a total blessing to Gary as well as to the inmates. We are always eager to have any volunteers as well as any donations.

Meetings

We provide worship services on the 1st & 4th Sundays of each month from 8:45 - 10:00am at various locations within the Hamilton County Justice Centers. We have a couple of meetings throughout the year, for all church ministries teams and a meeting for new volunteers quarterly.

McCreary County, Kentucky Outreach

McCreary County is located in Appalachia in Southern Kentucky near the Tennessee border. The Sisters of Good Shepherd operate out of a small residence connected to a second hand clothing shop with an attached Chapel, which at one time was an automobile repair garage.

The sister minister to the families of the of the area, both Catholic and non-Catholic. Many of the men are former coal miners. The Coal mines were closed many years ago leaving no means of financial support for the families. The people have little education, but still find odd jobs to do and make mountain crafts to support their family. The Sister offer Vocation Bible School programs during July, a pre-school program working with young children and their moms during the year, plus coordinating other groups who come to assist in other projects.

St. I's has been able to assist the Sisters and residence by providing new toys and gifts for their children's Christmas party through our school's toy collection in November and also toiletries and personal items donated through our Cart Sunday.

The McCreary Outreach Committee meets several times a year to plan and coordinate the programs. Cart Sunday collection is planned for January 24 & 25, 2009. The school's Thanksgiving Toy Collection, Tuesday before Thanksgiving, November 2008.

The Outreach Fund was established to give witness to our faith community's option for and solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, a key theme of Catholic Social Tradition.

Financial assistance is given only to those nonprofit agencies, organizations, or groups beyond our parish boundaries whose mission is to educate, advocate, and take action on behalf of the poor and marginalized, and who work toward changing structural injustice.

Funds are received from parish sources and individual donations, and are distributed twice a year.

To make contributions or memorials, or to receive an application form to request assistance from the Outreach Fund, contact Joanie Schaffer at (513) 574-7147.

Meets twice a year: near the beginning of the St. Ignatius fiscal year (in July or August), and again approximately six months later (in January or February).

Meetings are held in the chairperson's home.
