Fr. Don McCarthy came to St. Ignatius parish as a Resident Associate when he retired as pastor of St. Antoninus parish in Covedale in 2003. He is a diocesan priest and was ordained August 22, 1954. He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Louvain, Belgium, in 1960. He taught at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Norwood until 1979 and was Director of the Newman Center at the University of Cincinnati from 1960 to 1969.
He worked with the Pope John Center for medical-Moral Research and Education as Director of Education from 1979-1984. On September 1984, he became pastor of St. Antoninus parish until he came here to St. Ignatius in 2003. He does some programs for Sacred Heart Radio (740 on your AM dial) and serves on the station's Board. He is pleased to celebrate weddings, Baptisms and funerals tat St. Ignatius and elsewhere. He is chaplain of the Secular Disclaimed Carmelits and Ancient Order of Hibernians. He loves to tell Irish stories in memory of his Irish grandfather, Calahan McCarthy, who came to this country in 1880.
